DDC Endorses O'Shaughnessy for Columbus City Council
In a unanimous vote at its March 7th meeting, Dublin Democrats
Club @ Scioto praised Columbus City Councilwoman Maryellen
O'Shaughnessy for her aide's reaching out to the new group by
offering to schedule O'Shaughnessy to visit them at Scioto this
spring. The DDC also enthusiastically agreed to get involved in
her re-election campaign by aiding during the primary season,
also this spring. O'Shaughnessy is a Democrat who chairs two
committees in Council, and has run for other offices in the past.
For an official biography of O'Shaughnessy, click here.
The Councilwoman visited Scioto's DDC on Thursday April 7th! With our                                  aid, O'Shaughnessy won her primary election on May 3rd! Congrats!

Bush Pushes Energy Plan
What do you do when it seems your policies are going
nowhere? Compromise! But obviously, President Bush
hasn't gotten the message. He is attempting for a third
time to stubbornly push through Congress an energy
plan that would include drilling in the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Yet he continues to refuse
the "fuzzy math" of reality by ignoring calls for a
"middle ground," or even by doing his homework!
Like with the Iraq War and weapons of mass destruc-
tion, Bush is absolutely convinced that with one sci-
entist's estimates about the amount of oil, he can dec-
lare this as a truth. Yet many scientists think there is much less oil in the Refuge than Bush believes. But does Bush care? Of course not! As long as his friends in the drilling industry are happy, so is he. Other provisions of the plan are just as reckless: Bush allocates a meager $1 billion for renewable energy cars, while he carelessly pours multi-hundreds of billions into Iraq, and trillions into an unnecessary Social Security overhaul. "Fuzzy math" indeed, Mr. President. Get involved! Visit the JohnKerry.com website to get involved in his efforts following the bill's sudden passage. And, vote with your stand in the poll above.

DDC's Polls Point toward a future for the Party
Dublin Democrats Club has had several polls so far in the space above - and will continue
to. Results so far have been as follows:
*Unanimous - Yes to Howard Dean for DNC Chair
*Nearly 50-50 - On whether Democrats should use faith more in campaigning (Slight "no")
*Unanimous - No to oil drilling in the Alaska Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)

The DDC News Feb. 2004

Coleman Enters Governor Race
Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman announced on February 1st that he is running for
Governor of Ohio! He was the first candidate to join the race. Primary elections will be
held in spring of 2006, and the general elections will follow that fall. Why should Democrats
unite for Coleman? Well, there are other choices. But priority #1 is to put some Dems into
statewide office! Just look at the Republicans' track record by reading the newspapers.
One name sums up our opinion of the Republican statewide leaders in Ohio: Ken Blackwell, who disallowed any investigation into possible 2004 Ohio voter fraud.  Coleman is a man who even the Ohio Republican Party chair has great respect for, calling him "a formidable candidate." Hats off! One party rule is about to end! (Just leaves us wondering... will Jerry Springer run, too???)

Dean Wins DNC Chairmanship
Like him? Hate him? Howard Dean, the former
Vermont governor and 2004 presidential
candidate is now the chairman of the Democratic
National Committee. This group fundraises for
national races and is in charge of the national party
platform, etc. With the endorsement of major state
organizations, Dean caused multiple other
contenders to immediately surrender. Our DDC
poll at right was unanimous - we like him! Dean's
priorities are competitive local and Congressional
races, hard work in "red states," and building a
more unified party based on clear issue stands.
Many powerful faith leaders want Democrats to not be "afraid" of faith issues in campaigns.
What do you think? Vote in our next DDC poll - above! Also, congratulate Chairman Dean
by visiting his organization online, Democracy For America.

Bush Plows Ahead with Not-So-Secure Social Security Plan
Thank goodness for the torchbearers of our party, conducted by Sen Edward Kennedy (D-MA),
to stand up and critique the policies President Bush has created for the modification of Social Security. Why do some Democrats complain about the plan? Well, let's just say... would you like your retirement money at the mercy of a trembling stock market? At his State of the Union address, the president wrapped his package nicely for adults, because the teenage population that will be most affected does not regularly watch State of the Unions. Just one problem,
Mr. President - this is one organization that does not like to be silent. But you be the judge - we encourage everyone to listen to the President's speeches or read about his plans from unbiased online newspapers. Then, post in our guestbook below to tell the world what you think!
